MRS-1608
MRS-1608
Recording
How long is the maximum continuous recording time?
Maximum 6 hours, not depending on recording tracks.
I want to record stereo source to any 2 tracks. However, recorded result is mono.
When you use specific effect algorism, for example Guitar/Bass or MIC as like mono input type, sound source was mixed to mono through effect section. Please BYPASS effect section, or use stereo input/stereo output type effect algorism, for example LINE or MASTERING.
Punch in / out and bounce functions cannot be used.
Make sure that the "8TRACK RECORDING" key is out. In 8-track recording mode, the punch-in / out and bounce functions are not available.
Tracks 9/10 - 15/16 cannot be selected as recording target.
Make sure that the "8TRACK RECORDING" key is out. In 8-track recording mode, recording on tracks 9/10 - 15/16 is not possible.
Althogh I performed bounce recording, the bounced result is not available.
If "CURRENT" is not selected as a recording target V-take, the bounce result will be recorded on the V-take of the recording track with the specified number. For details, please refer to "Selecting the recording destination V-take" (p.43) of the operation manual.
Althogh I performed bounce recording, only the signal from the drum track or bass track is recorded.
If "DRUM TR" or ""BASS TR" is selected as recording source signal, the audio tracks 1 - 16 are not mixed into the bounced result. This function is called "rhythm recording". To return the bounce function to normal condition, switch the recording source back to "MASTER", as described in "Selecting drum / bass track as recording source" (p.44) of the operation manual.
I have used the bounce function to record material onto stereo track, but during playback only one channel is heard.
hen the V-take number of the bounce target track and the V-take number for playback are different, only one track of the bounced material may be played back. To perform bounce recording in stereo, set the V-take of the bounce target to "CURRENT" (currently selected V-take). If performing bounce with a setting other than CURRENT, make sure that the correct V-takes are selected for the stereo track in playback.
For information on selecting the V-take for the bounce target, see "Selecting the recording destination V-take" on page 43 of the operation manual. For information on switching the V-take for each track, see "Switching V-takes" on page 35 of the operation manual.
Mixer
Although the fader volume is increased, I cannot hear the sound.
With a digital mixer, the appeared fader position can be different from the actual parameter value. Please move the fader volume a little, so that the parameter matches the fader position.
Is it possible to use outboard effect processor for send / return purpose ?
Yes, it is. The pre-fader signal for each track can be sent to the stereo SUB-OUT jack. Please send a specified signal from the SUB-OUT jack to an outboard effect processor and return to any tracks of the MRS-1608. For details, please refer to "Assining an input/track signal to the SUB-OUT jack" (p.82 - p.83) of the operation manual.
I want to jam along with accompaniments of the MRS-1608 during a live performance. Is it possible to send guide clicks only to the drummer?
Yes, it is. Using the SUB-OUT jack, you can send the guide clicks for a drummer without sending the click sound to PA system of live stage. Please connect a head phone to the SUB-OUT jack for a drummer and set up the MRS-1608 as below.
1. Assign the pre-fader signal of DRUM track to the SUB-OUT jack.
2. Select the pattern number 510 "METRO44" or pattern number 509 "METRO34" as simple guide rhythm.
3. Switch the Drum track status to mute condition.
I want to use the SUB-OUT jack as a spare headphone jack. However, the signal from the SUB-OUT jack is not available. ( Or, It sends a different mix from the Master output. )
Make sure that the "SUB OUT SEND" parameter of MASTER track is set to "ON". If the parameter is set to "OFF", the SUB-OUT jack doesn't carry the signal from Master output.
Is it possible to use tracks 9/10 - 15/16 as individual eight mono tracks?
No, it's not possible. Tracks 9/10 - 15/16 are four set of stereo tracks. One side of stereo tracks cannot be selected for recording / playback. Please use those tracks for recording stereo sources such as a synthesizer or bounce destination.
Rhythm Machine
I want to make new rhythm track for the song that was recorded by a tape recorder in the past.
It is possible. You can record drum sound to any track by playing drum pads in real time, while listening recorded song. Please refer to the item of "Rhythm recording" (p.44-p.45) of the operation manual.
When importing a project from other MRS series, I can't use the drum sound set other than STANDARD set.
In the imported project from other MRS series, ANALOG, CLASSIC drum sound set doesn't exist. If the optional USB board (UIB-01/02) is installed in the MRS-1608, you can add ANALOG, CLASSOC drum sound set to the project by using a computer.
1. Connect the computer and MRS-1608 with a USB cable.

Yes. Please select the pattern number 510 "METRO44" or the pattern number 509 "METRO34". Simple metronome click in 4/4 beat or 3/4 beat is available.
Phrase Loop
Is it possible to read loop sound through internal CD drive and use it for phrase loop function from loop corrections CDs?
It is possible to read and use WAV/AIFF data. Any specific data format, for example ACID data, should be read into WAV format. So any specific information is ignored. Audio loop corrections should be read as ripping data and then it should be imported as phrase loop. When a CD-R cannot be read depends on its format, please read it by computer and then transfer data to MRS-1608 through USB interface.
Can the phrase loop function handle the data that was recorded by 32kHz sampling?
Yes. The MRS-1608 can handle the data that was sampled by 32kHz. When the 32kHz sampling data is read through internal drive, sampling frequency is converted to 44.1kHz. Please note that reading time should be longer because of convert processing.
I have the MRS-1608 that was installed UIB-01/UIB-02 USB interface. Can I use WAV/AIFF files on my computer for the phrase loop function?
Yes you can. Please copy WAV/AIFF files that you want to use into the "WAV_AIFF" folder on internal hard disk drive of the MRS-1608. Please refer to the item of "Importing a WAV/AIFF file" (p.70-71) of the operation manual for details.
CD
The indication "NO DATA" appears on the display, when attempting to create an audio CD.
The only audio data of the "MASTER TRACK" is burned to a CD-R/RW disc. Before creating an audio CD, please complete the mix-down operation on the master track. For details about mix-down function, please refer to "Recording several tracks on a master track" (p.41-p.42). of the operation manual.
How fast is the writing speed of the CD-R/RW drive?

Is ripping possible from audio CD?
Ripping is possible. However, secondary use is prohibited except your personal use. Please pay attention not to infringe any copyrights.
My CD player do not playback CD-R/RW that was made by the MRS-1608 internal CD-R/RW drive.
Most of player can playback CD-R/RW, but some of them cannot. If you playback CD-R/RW by the one that cannot playback it, some problems will be occurred, for example:
- Luck of sound while playback.
- Need long time to start playback.
- Do not start playback.
Please confirm to manufacturer of your CD player if it can playback CD-R/RW.
Can I install versatile CD/R-RW drive other than "CD-01/02" on the MRS-1608?
Please do not install any versatile CD-R/RW drive other than CD-01/02. Mechanically, it is possible to attach versatile one, however behavior is not proved because firmware for each versatile are not standardized. Possibility of writing error must be very high, so please be sure to purchase and install optional CD-01/02 from our distributors or dealers.
When I try ripping a loop phrase from audio CD, "PROTECT" warning is displayed and I cannot do ripping.
You cannot do ripping when the project was protected, for example demo song was protected originally. Please cancel "PROTECT" function by referring the item of "Protecting a project" (p.169) of operation manual.
The MRS-1608 cannot read WAV/AIFF file that is saved by CD-R drive on a PC.
If you make CD-R by "Track at once" mode, CD drive of the MRS-1608 cannot recognize it. Please make CD-R by "Disk at once" mode.
After writing audio data to a CD-R, the attempt to finalize the disc results in the error message "NOT CD-R".
Have you written the audio data by album? Discs on which data were written by album are finalized automatically. The disc can already be played on a regular CD player and does not need to be finalized again.
MIDI
MIDI synchronization is not working with other equipment.
Please make sure that MRS-1608 is set to MTC / MIDI clock "master" and set up the other device to operate as MTC / MIDI clock "slave". Also, we recommend you to turn off unused MIDI sync message to prevent the malfunction of the receiving device. * Other data such as effect patch data and mixer settings cannot be read. When a project is loaded, the default settings of the destination model will apply.
When I locate a marker point using the measure/beat/tick indication, the position is shifted by several ticks.
The marker point is stored in memory using the hour/minute/second information of the recorder section. Each time you perform a locate operation using the measure/beat/tick indication, the display value is calculated again, based on the tempo and beat information of the rhythm section. This calculation may lead to a slight error. To get the most accurate locate result, you should use the hour/minute/second indication.
