FAQ
PS-04
PS-04
How long is it possible to record in the PS-04?
It depends on the capacity of SmartMedia. Please see below. The capacity of SmartMedia card supplied with PS-04 is 32MB.
| Capacity | Long mode | Hi-Fi mode |
| 16MB | 15min. | 7min. |
| 32MB | 32min. | 16min. |
| 64MB | 67min. | 33min. |
| 128MB | 134min. | 67min. |
Indicator displays FULL and I cannot record anymore.
Supplied SmartMedia with the PS-04 is 32MB, so total recording time is 16 minutes for all tracks (in Hi-Fi mode). It means that FULL will be displayed when you record 4 minutes for each tracks. If you use 128 MB SmartMedia, then recordable time is increased to 4 times more. Even if cost of SmartMedia is expensive, you can keep low running cost as follows;
1. Record completed data to DAT or Mini Disk.
2. Save data to computer by using card manager.
The built-in mic doesn't work even though MIC switch turns on.
When the insert effect algorithm is "GUITAR/BASS", the built in mic cannot be used. (Except when the effect type "CABI" is selected in the PRE AMP/DRIVE module or when it is turned off) Please select another effect algorithm or bypass the insert effect.
I cannot succeed in stereo recording. When play back the recorded track, the recorded stereo sound source is altered to mono.
There are 2 possible reasons.
(1) Effect algorithm is monaural input type.
GUITAR or MIC effect algorithm cannot be used for stereo source. Please use another effect algorithm or bypass insert effect.
(2) The panning position is incorrect.
To record stereo track correctly, set PAN parameter for Left channel to L100, and PAN parameter for Right channel to R100. Or please set the STEREO LINK function to ON.
Is there any compatibility with PS-02 or MRS-4?
Audio data on SmartMedia card saved by PS-02 can be loaded into PS-04. However, Rhythm and Effect data cannot be loaded. There is no compatibility with MRS-4 data.
After converting audio data into WAV/AIFF file by using "Card Manager", there is no reverb sound and EQ setting.
"Card Manager" converts V-take data before signal processing by Send / Return effect and Track EQ. Please record audio data including Send / Return effect and Track EQ to any V-take, using "Bounce" function and convert it into WAV/AIFF file.
I want to use the data of PS-04 on my computer. What should I prepare?
Please purchase SmartMedia reader/writer to import/export the data by SmartMedia. You can purchase it at the store which is selling computers or digital cameras. And please note that you need to download free software "Card Manager" from our website, which allows you to convert original compressed data format into WAV/AIFF format.

Is it possible to make audio CD from PS-04 audio data by using CD-R/RW drive on my computer?
Yes, it's possible. When you make audio CD, the sampling frequency of WAV/AIFF data must be 44.1kHz. Using "PS-04 Card Manager (File Manager)", you can convert audio data into stereo WAV/AIFF file in 44.1kHz sampling.
Do you have editor software for PS-04 rhythm patterns / songs?
We are pleased to introduce the following web site, which is preparing convenient tools for Zoom PS-04 Pattern Editor and Song Editor. You can purchase from following site.

So, Zoom Corporation cannot support any trouble between above operator and user. Also, Zoom Corporation cannot support any trouble, happened by using introduced software/tools.
Where can I purchase SmartMedia for PS-04?
SmartMedia is a general memory card for digital cameras. You can purchase it at computer shops. You may also able to find some net-stores. If you cannot find it, please ask Zoom distributor in your country.
Can I connect the unit to a guitar amplifier?
Because the effect algorithms assume a line connection, the sound when connected to a guitar amp will not be as intended. You should use headphones or a regular audio system for playback and monitoring.
When I try to format a card, the indication "PROTECTED" appears and the formatting process does not go ahead.
The SmartMedia card has a write-protect sticker attached. Remove the sticker and try again.
I want to burn WAV files exported with the Card Manager to an audio CD. How can I do this?
Before using your CD writing software, you must convert the sampling frequency to 44.1 kHz which is the standard used for CD audio. Use a freeware waveform editor or other suitable software to convert the sampling rate.
I used the built-in mics to record a band performance, but the recording is distorted, although I adjusted the recording level properly.
The built-in mics may pick up physical vibrations such as very low frequencies as distortion. When setting up the PS-04, avoid locations that will be subject to strong vibrations such as near speakers or a drum set. It may also be advisable to place the unit on a soft cloth or similar, to reduce the influence of vibrations.
