Recording
What is the maximum available recording time for video and audio?
The maximum recording time depends on the capacity of the SD/SDHC card and the recording format. For details,

What kind of image quality can I expect from the Q3?
The video resolution is 640 x 480 pixels (VGA). This is approximately equal to analog television broadcasts.
I recorded a band performance with the built-in microphone and set the recording level properly, but the recording sounds distorted.
When using the built-in stereo microphone, physical vibrations caused by very low-frequency sounds can be recorded as distortion. When setting up the Q3, you should avoid locations that may be subject to vibrations from loudspeakers, a drum set or similar. Placing the unit on a soft cloth may also help to reduce vibrations.
What is the maximum sound pressure level for the built-in microphone?
The built-in microphone is rated for a maximum input sound pressure level of 130 dB.
Can I view the image from the Q3's camera on a TV while shooting a video?
No, the image shot with the Q3 during video recording cannot be shown on an external display in real time.
Can I shoot still pictures with the Q3?
No, still pictures are not supported.
Does the Q3 have an anti-shake function?
No, the Q3 is not equipped with an anti-shake function.
Is it possible to perform long-term recording that exceeds the maximum WAV file size (2GB)?
Yes. When the 2GB file size is reached during recording, the Q3 stores the file and then opens a new file for further recording. Recording will not be interrupted during this process. By joining the resulting files using waveform editing software on a computer, a seamless long-term recording can be created.
* Normally, the maximum size for a WAV file is set to 2GB. Files larger than 2GB may not be recognized correctly by media player software or other audio software on a computer.
HandyShare
I have erased the HandyShare application that was on the supplied SD card. Can I get it back?
Yes, HandyShare can be downloaded from our web site free of charge. Select the installer on
the Downloads page.
Can I extract only the audio from a video that I have made?
Yes. The supplied HandyShare application allows you to save the audio as a WAV file.
When I try to upload a movie to YouTube, I get an error and the upload does not complete successfully.
YouTube does not allow uploading videos that are longer than 10 minutes. Errors may also occur at times when there is a high volume of traffic on YouTube. Wait a while and try the upload again.
SD Cards
I want to format (initialize) an SD/SDHC card.
Perform the following steps to format the card.
1) Turn power on while holding down the [DELETE] key.
2) The SD/SDHC card format confirmation screen appears.
3) Press the [+] key to select ''Yes''. Formatting will start.
* Formatting the SD/SDHC card will erase all content from the card, including the HandyShare application and any video/audio files that you have created.
* If you want to use an SD/SDHC card that was previously used in a computer or digital camera, format it first in the Q3.

Perform the following steps to return all settings of the Q3 to the factory default.
Can I use rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries in the Q3?
Yes. However, to ensure that remaining battery capacity is indicated correctly by the Q3, set the ''BATTERY TYPE'' option in the setup menu to ''Ni-MH''.
Can I recharge the batteries with the Q3?
No, the Q3 does not have a function for charging the batteries. You should therefore use a commercially available charger designed for the batteries you are using.
Can I use the Q3 as a linear PCM recorder?
Yes. The video/audio mode switch allows using the Q3 as linear PCM recorder for sound only. By selecting 24 bit/96 kHz WAV file recording, high sound quality far superior to CDs can be obtained. MP3 recording which is useful for web-based distribution is also possible.
Can I use the Q3 as a USB mic for my computer?
No, this is not supported.
Can I use the Q3 as a web camera for my computer?
No, this is not supported.
Can I connect an external mic?
No, connection of external mics is not supported.
Does the Q3 have an audio input jack (AUX IN
No, the Q3 does not have an audio input jack.
Can I use a TV to play back a video that I have recorded with the Q3?
Yes, this is possible. Use the supplied AV cable to connect the Q3 to the TV. You can then enjoy your videos on the TV screen.
I have connected the Q3 to my TV, but now there is no picture on the unit itself. Is it broken?
No, this is not a defect. The built-in screen of the Q3 is automatically turned off when an external display is connected.
Can I use Windows Media Player to play a video that I shot with the Q3?
No, Windows Media Player does not support the MOV file format that the Q3 uses. To play MOV files, use the QuickTime player available free of charge from Apple Corporation.
A WAV file recorded with 24-bit/96 kHz sampling cannot be played on my computer.
Depending on the media player or DAW software version, WAV files with high resolution and high sampling rates such as 24-bit/96 kHz may not play properly. Check which formats are supported by the software that you are using.
Where can I buy a tripod?
Tripods are usually available in stores selling camera accessories. Check out an electronics/camera shop in your area.
Is there a dedicated soft carrying case for the Q3?
Yes, the dedicated soft carrying case SCQ-3 is available separately as an option. Please contact your nearest
